BAIF at COP30, Belém, Brazil
Championing Local Solutions for Global Climate Action
The expert delegation from India-based BAIF Development Research Foundation, a leading organisation in rural livelihoods and climate action, will be participating in the 30th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled from November 10–21, 2025, at Belém, Brazil.
As a UNFCCC-accredited Observer Organisation, BAIF will engage in high-level dialogues, thematic discussions, and collaborative events to showcase community-driven and research-backed models on climate resilience, innovation, and sustainable livelihoods.
BAIF’s Climate-Resilient Development Model
Founded in 1967, BAIF has nearly six decades of experience in rural development. BAIF’s integrated sustainable livelihoods programmes reach over 4 million families across 100,000 villages in 17 Indian states every year. These initiatives promote carbon-positive rural development through a science-driven, participatory approach that combines research, innovation, and field implementation.
Key Components:
- Reduction of methane from livestock and improvement in livestock productivity through scientific breeding, feed management, and digital monitoring tools.
- Soil health management and land degradation neutrality, achieved through regenerative agricultural practices, composting, and bio-inputs.
- Grassland restoration, agro-horti-forestry, and silvipastoral systems for enhanced carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation.
- Clean and renewable energy promotion through local solar and biogas solutions in rural households and farms.
- Nature-based solutions that blend traditional knowledge with modern science, strengthening community adaptation capacities.
- Applied research and innovation programmes that incubate and pilot climate-smart technologies and start-up solutions emerging from rural communities, youth innovators, and partner institutions.
These interventions are closely aligned with the Paris Agreement Goals and India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), demonstrating how livelihood security, environmental stewardship, and climate action can co-exist through inclusive and science-based development.
Towards Global-Local Partnerships
BAIF seeks to build bridges between local experiences and global climate platforms, ensuring that evidence, innovations, and voices from rural India contribute meaningfully to shaping the world’s climate agenda.
BAIF’s long-standing collaboration with research institutions, universities, global development agencies, and innovation networks continues to foster co-creation of scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions.
By strengthening these partnerships, BAIF envisions an ecosystem where research, community wisdom, and enterprise development converge to achieve the dual goals of climate resilience and livelihood sustainability — truly embodying the spirit of “Local Solutions for Global Climate Action.”
